Child dies after struck by her mother’s car in Lady Lake

Da’meara Harrison

A three-year-old girl died Tuesday night after being hit by her mother’s vehicle in the driveway of their home in the April Hills area of Lady Lake.

Lady Lake police officers were called to a home on E. Rose Lane at about 9:40 p.m., where they found the child, Da’meara Harrison, bleeding and unresponsive at the end of the driveway. Officers performed CPR on the little girl until EMS personnel arrived and transported her to Leesburg Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

According to police, the child’s mother and three other children had just arrived home from grocery shopping. The mother apparently left Da’meara and two other children, ages 7 and 5, in the car while she took an infant inside her home.

While the mother was inside, Da’meara exited the vehicle and walked behind it. At some point, the transmission was shifted into neutral and the car rolled backwards, striking and killing her, the report said, adding that the incident is still under investigation.
