Sheriff’s detectives investigating fatal shooting in Ocala

Marion County Sheriff’s Major Crimes detectives are investigating a fatal shooting that took place early Thursday morning in Ocala.

At approximately 12:40 a.m., the sheriff’s office and the Ocala Police Department simultaneously received calls regarding two active crime scenes in both jurisdictions that were related to a shooting.

Crime scene tape at the Circle K at 5986 W Hwy. 40 in Ocala blocks off the area around the car where 18-year old June Hugo was found suffering from gunshot wounds. He later died at a local hospital.

Both agencies responded to the Circle K gas station at 5986 W Hwy. 40 in Ocala, where they found 18-year old June Hugo suffering from gunshot wounds inside a red sedan parked in front of the store. He was transported to a local hospital, where he died as a result of his injuries.

While at the minimart, deputies learned that the shooting may have occurred near the 600 block of NW 58th Court in the nearby Ocala Ridge subdivision. They quickly responded to that location and recovered evidence to confirm that a shooting had occurred there.

Detectives believe the two crime scenes are connected. Two persons of interest were subsequently detained a short distance from the Circle K crime scene but they haven’t yet been linked to the homicide.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact Det. Bradley Bartlett at (352) 438-5932 or Crime Stoppers of Marion County at (352) 368-STOP (7867).
