Woman flees Ocala Wal-Mart after fraudulent return of items she didn’t purchase

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy was called to an Ocala Wal-Mart on Monday after a loss prevention officer at the store reported a woman making a fraudulent return.

The loss prevention officer at the store, located at 9570 SW Hwy. 200, told the deputy that a woman entered the business shortly before 8 p.m. Sunday with an empty shopping cart and selected several items from the sporting goods section. After picking up some other items as well, the woman then proceeded to the customer service area at 8:20 p.m. and returned the merchandise as if she’d purchased it, a sheriff’s office report states.

After the woman received $70.02 for the items, the loss prevention officer made contact with her. The woman was escorted to the loss prevention office but then fled from the store, the report says.
