Marion County sees record turnout on first day of early voting

Marion County saw record turnout on the first day of early voting.

By noon Thursday the Marion County Supervisor of Elections had reported the largest day ever of early voting turnout for a gubernatorial election in Marion County. As of 3 p.m., 5,550 voters cast a ballot during early voting. Turnout can be tracked live at VoteMarion.com/Turnout. On the first day of early voting in the 2014 general election there were a total of 3,435 voters and in the 2010 general election there were 1,375 voters.

Early voting in Marion County will continue through Saturday, Nov. 3 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at nine early voting sites. Mulberry Grove Recreation Center is a Marion County early voting location in The Villages.

Meanwhile, the Sumter County Supervisor of Elections office reported that by Thursday afternoon, more than 30 percent of registered voters had already voted through mail-in ballots and early voting.
