Motorcycle crash leaves Alabama man dead, Fort McCoy woman injured

Christa Bishop

An Alabama man was killed and a Fort McCoy woman was seriously injured Thursday night in a motorcycle crash in Marion County.

The motorcycle, driven by 29-year-old Michael Myers Jr., was traveling west on NE 175th Street, just west of NE 37th Court, at about 9 p.m. when the crash occurred. Myers, of Fayette, Ala., failed to maintain control of his 2001 Yamaha motorcycle and it traveled off the roadway to the right, across the north shoulder.

The motorcycle then collide with a fence and both Myers and his passenger, 33-year-old Christa Bishop, were ejected, a Florida Highway Patrol report states.

Myers was pronounced dead at the scene, while Bishop was transported to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville with serious injuries. The investigation is continuing and it hasn’t been determined if alcohol played a factor in the crash, the FHP report states.
