Marion County sheriff’s deputies were called to a home in the 15000 block of NW 115th Court at about 9:30 p.m. Thursday for a possible shooting. When they arrived, they found Reza suffering from stab wounds and another man who had been severely battered. Sheriff’s officials haven’t released the second man’s name yet but they say everyone involved in the incident has been identified and there are no other suspects being sought.

Reza was transported to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville, where he was pronounced dead. The other man was transported to a local hospital and was listed in stable condition Thursday night.

Major Crimes detectives from the sheriff’s office are leading the investigation into the incident.

Marion County Jail records show that 43-year Touias Reza had been arrested four times this year and once in 2013. He was taken into custody and transported to the jail on, from left: Sept. 26 (felony battery) June 19 (return for court on a battery charge), April 25 (resisting/obstructing an officer without violence, violating the terms of a previous conditional release), April 9 (domestic battery) and Sept. 8, 2013 (battery, possession of drug paraphernalia, outstanding Alachua County warrant).

Reza had a long history with the Marion County legal system. He has been held in the Marion County Jail five times, with four of those arrests coming earlier this year. Those include:

  •  Sept. 26: Felony battery;
  • June 19: Return for court on a battery charge;
  • April 25: Resisting/obstructing an officer without violence and violating the terms of a previous conditional release; and
  • April 9: Domestic battery.

 Jail records also show that Reza was arrested on Sept. 8, 2013 and charged with battery, possession of drug paraphernalia and on an outstanding Alachua County warrant.

Marion County Court records show that on Dec. 11, prosecutors elected not to proceed with the Sept. 26 battery charge. In June, Reza was found guilty for resisting or obstructing an officer. In May, both the pretrial release and domestic battery charges were dropped/abandoned. And in September 2013, Reza was found guilty of possession of drug paraphernalia, court records show.
