Ocala man with Ecstasy jailed after police chase makes circle back to apartments

Ned English

A 26-year-old Ocala man with an extensive arrest history was caught possessing Ecstasy and marijuana after a high-speed chase Wednesday night.

Ocala Police officers saw Ned English, of 16230 SE 135th Ct., run a stop sign as he was leaving the Sutton Place Apartments on Northeast 23rd Circle. They tried to make a traffic stop along the 1000 block of NE 25th Avenue but English, who was driving a green, four-door Mitsubishi, failed to stop. He led police on a chase that reached 60 mph and included several missed stop signs before returning to the apartments, where he got out of the vehicle and surrendered, a police report states.

English told an officer he didn’t have a driver’s license and had a warrant for failure to appear in court. The officer then noticed the smell of marijuana emanating from English’s vehicle. A search turned up approximately 1 gram of marijuana, a dollar bill containing a white powder that tested positive for MDMA (Ecstasy), a marijuana pipe and small digital scale, the report says.

English, who has four previous arrests in Marion County for drug and firearms offenses, was charged with possession of MDMA, fleeing and eluding police, possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving with a suspended license for the third time, as well as three outstanding warrants. He was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he’s being held without bond and awaiting a Feb. 12 date in Marion County Court.
