Carjackers sought after man reports being robbed at gunpoint

Multiple Marion County sheriff’s deputies responded to a robbery call Tuesday evening in the 2800 block of NE 14th Avenue in Ocala.

When they arrived, the victim told them that as he was exiting his vehicle, a gold van with multiple people inside parked next to him. The victim said that a black male, possibly wearing a grey hoodie, then approached him, held him at gunpoint and robbed him of his cash, wallet and cell phone. The victim, who wasn’t injured in the incident, said another man also took his car keys and his vehicle, a sheriff’s office report states.

Dep. Anthony Esquivel later located the victim’s stolen vehicle in the 9200 block of County Road 25. The vehicle drove away when Esquivel got behind it and a pursuit was initiated, the report says.

The occupants abandoned the vehicle in the 7900 block of SE 123rd Lane and fled the scene. Marion County sheriff’s Major Crimes detectives responded and are continuing their investigation.
