Cussing fit at middle school basketball game lands irate New Yorker behind bars

Lemar A. Walrond

A New Yorker who refused to stop “cussing and screaming” in front of fans and parents was arrested at a middle school basketball game last week.

The school resource officer at Horizon Academy at Marion Oaks, located at 365 Marion Oaks Drive, called for backup last Thursday night after a man later identified as 40-year-old Lemar A. Walrond refused stop making a scene at the game, a sheriff’s office report states.

Walrond apparently was upset over an encounter with an unidentified 15-year-old child, the report says, adding that the school resource officer warned him that he would be arrested if he didn’t stop causing the disturbance.

Walrond then screamed and cussed at the deputy and when she attempted to put him in handcuffs, he pulled away and turned to face her. The deputy, who suffered two small lacerations on her hand and was bleeding, then pulled out her taser and ordered Walrond to comply with her commands, which he did. He was then handcuffed and placed in the backseat of her patrol vehicle, the report says.

The deputy reported that while Walrond was in her patrol vehicle, he stated that 15-year-olds “who act like that can get shot.” He then continued his aggressive behavior, the report says.

Walrond, who lives at 14727 Brookeville Blvd. in Rosedale, N.Y., was transported to the Marion County Jail and charged with resisting arrest without violence and disturbing the peace. He was released Saturday on $1,500 bond and is due to appear in a Marion County courtroom on March 20 at 1 p.m. to answer to the charges.
