Two people were killed Wednesday night in a three-vehicle crash on County Road 484 in Marion County.
The incident, which left four others injured, took place around 9:47 p.m. when a 2006 Cadillac Escalade, driven by 31-year-old Jason O. Scott, of Ocala, struck the rear portion of a 2003 Lexus RX 300 driven by 67-year-old Ordanel Espinal, also of Ocala. Both vehicles had been traveling eastbound when the collision occurred east of Marion Oaks Manor, a Florida Highway Patrol report states.
The impact caused Espinal’s vehicle to cross the centerline and collide head-on with a 2015 Nissan Sentra driven by 29-year-old Stephanie Arias, also of Ocala. Arias was pronounced dead at the scene and 81-year-old Reina Suarez De Yepez, a passenger in Espinal’s vehicle, died at Ocala Regional Medical Center, the FHP report says.
Espinal and another passenger in his car, 58-year-old Maria Espinal, both were seriously injured. Ordanel Espinal was transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center and it’s unclear from the report where Maria Espinal was taken for treatment.
A four-year-old passenger in Arias’ vehicle, Elliot Persue, was critically injured and was transported to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville. Scott received minor injuries, the report says.
After the collision, Espinal’s vehicle came to rest obstructing both lanes of CR 484. Both Arias’ vehicle and Scott’s SUV came to rest on the north shoulder of the roadway, the report says, adding that the crash remains under investigation, alcohol was not a factor and charges are pending.
