Trespassing teens nabbed on drug charges after man spots them running from his home

Rylee Jean Evans

An 18-year-old woman and a juvenile female who admitted to breaking into a shed to smoke pot were charged with trespassing and marijuana possession.

According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office report, the owner of the home on SE 44th Avenue Rd. in Ocala went to check on the house on Monday. When he arrived, he saw two females run from the front of the residence with a book bag and enter a vehicle. He told the girls he was going to call law enforcement, and they chose to stay and wait for deputies to arrive.

Rylee Jean Evans, 18, of 138 SE 33rd Ave., told the responding deputy that she and the juvenile female were there to take pictures, and that they never entered the house. A search of the residence and buildings owned by the victim revealed an open window on the shed behind the main residence. The victim provided deputies with a key to the shed and upon opening it, the strong odor of burnt marijuana could be detected, according to the report.

When Evans opened the door of her 2015 Toyota Highlander to get her driver’s license, a sheriff’s office detective was met with the strong odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle. The detective conducted a search of the vehicle and found one syringe and two glass containers of what appeared to be THC oil in a purse. Evans said the purse belonged to her, and the oil field tested positive for THC, according to the report.

The search also turned up a backpack on the backseat floor that the juvenile female said belonged to her. Inside the backpack was a jar containing a green leafy substance that smelled like marijuana and later field tested positive for THC, according to the report.

Evans told the detective that she and the juvenile female came to the residence to smoke marijuana because they knew it was vacant. She said the juvenile female opened the window of the shed so they could get in, according to the report.

The juvenile female said she and Evans came to the property and entered the shed through a window that she had to break the screen to open. She said they were hanging out on the property because she used to live there and thought it would be OK, according to the report.

The victim estimated the cost of the damaged screen at $100.

Evans and the juvenile female were arrested and taken to the Marion County Jail. Both were charged with trespassing and possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana, and the juvenile received an additional charge of criminal mischief, according to the report.

Evans was released Wednesday on $2,500 bond and will appear in Marion County Court on April 30, according to jail records. No further information was available about the juvenile female.
