Knife-throwing Ocala man makes threats while en route to the Marion County Jail

Spencer Lyle Bellcase

An Ocala man reportedly made threats against the victim and himself while being taken to the Marion County Jail after allegedly throwing a pair of knives and numerous other items at a woman during a violent domestic altercation last Sunday.

Spencer Lyle Bellcase, 55, of NE 22nd Ct., allegedly told a deputy he was going to shoot the victim in the head and kill himself when he gets out of jail, according to a Marion County Sheriff’s Office report. The victim said Bellcase doesn’t own a firearm but keeps telling her he is going to get one.

The victim said the argument started over her taking Bellcase to the pharmacy. She said she was washing dishes when Bellcase grabbed her by the throat and twisted it before pushing her head into a wall. The victim said she didn’t fight back and tried to stay calm until Bellcase grabbed a steak knife from a utensil holder on the stove, according to the report.

The victim told the deputy she pushed Bellcase down and ran out the front door, and Bellcase followed her outside with three knives. She said Bellcase threw two of the knives at her while she was running away, and that she had to dodge them to avoid being hit, the report says.

The victim said she went back inside the residence to get her small dog so she could leave. She said Bellcase asked her if she was going to take him to the pharmacy to get his medication and she said no. She said Bellcase threw a cup at her, but she was able to catch it and run out of the home without the dog, according to the report.

According to the victim, Bellcase said, “See if you can catch this,” before throwing a microwave tray at her while she was running away. She said Bellcase had been drinking alcohol and was under the influence of it during the incident. And she added that he has threatened to kill her in the past, according to the report.

The deputy did not observe any bruises or marks on the victim, but he noted a broken microwave tray in the front yard. The victim also showed the deputy the two knives that Bellcase threw at her and a video of her picking them up. When asked if he was under the influence of alcohol, Bellcase told the deputy he is an alcoholic. The deputy did not observe any bruises or marks on him, the report says.

Bellcase, who was previously charged with domestic battery in June 2016 and has three DUI arrests on his record, was charged last Sunday with domestic battery and aggravated domestic assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill. He was released Tuesday on $1,000 bond and will appear in Marion County Court on April 30.
