Homeless woman charged with driving with suspended license

Janey Leyn Cartwright

A homeless woman was arrested Monday night on charges of driving with a suspended license and failing to register a motor vehicle.

Shortly before midnight, a Marion County sheriff’s deputy pulled over a green Ford pickup truck that was traveling along the 11500 block of SE Maricamp Road with its passenger-side headlight out. The driver, 43-year-old Janey Leyn Cartwright, told the deputy she didn’t have a driver’s license, according to the sheriff’s report.

A computer search revealed that Cartwright’s license was suspended in January 2018 and she has a prior conviction for driving with a suspended license in 2003. The search also showed that the truck Cartwright was driving is not registered, the report said.

Cartwright said the vehicle is titled to her mother, but she is the primary user and has been living out of it. She was taken to the Marion County Jail, where she was released Tuesday on $2,000 bond.
