Guatemala man jailed for driving without a license

Rolman Adolfo Lopez

An 18-year-old from Guatemala was charged with driving without a license after being pulled over Tuesday night in Ocala.

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy observed a west-bound blue Nissan pickup traveling fast and erratically on NW 10th Place. The deputy turned around his patrol vehicle to follow the truck. He observed the truck swerve from the right lane to the left lane several times, almost driving off the road, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The deputy activated his emergency lights and tried to conduct a traffic stop, but the truck turned south onto NW 120th Avenue and continued without stopping. The deputy activated his siren multiple times before the driver finally stopped at the 800 block of NW 120th Avenue, the report said.

The driver identified himself as Rolman Adolfo Lopez and said he knew he was driving at excessive speeds and swerving. He said he did not have a Florida license or identification and instead provided a laminated piece of paper from Guatemala with his name on it. A computer check confirmed Lopez does not have a license, according to the report.

Lopez was arrested and taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was released Friday with his bond deferred. He’s scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on Oct. 14.
