Knife-carrying Citra woman jailed after nasty spat

Katlyn Antonia Grimmage

A 19-year-old Citra woman was charged with aggravated domestic battery with a deadly weapon after she reportedly pulled out a knife during an argument with a man over a cell phone.

Katlyn Antonia Grimmage, of 2250 NW 155th St., told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy she went to the victim’s apartment on NE 47th Terrace in Silver Springs to retrieve her phone. She said she is scared of the victim due to past domestic violence, so she concealed a small kitchen knife in her waistband before arriving at the location, according to the sheriff’s office report.

Grimmage said she and the victim got into a verbal argument that turned physical when he pushed her in the neck, so she withdrew her knife in self-defense. Grimmage said she and the victim fought over the knife, which resulted in both parties suffering lacerations to the outside of their hands. Grimmage said she was headed to the hospital when the deputy stopped her at the entrance to the apartment complex, the report said.

The victim confirmed the argument was over a cell phone. He said the argument turned physical when Grimmage punched him in the left cheek with her closed fist. The victim said he reacted in self-defense and pushed her away, which is when she drew the knife out of her waistband and tried to strike him with an overhead stab, according to the report.

The victim said he struggled to get the knife away from Grimmage and, during that altercation, he suffered a minor cut to the top of his right hand and a finger. He said Grimmage left the location when he was on the phone with 911, the report said.

Based on the totality of the circumstances, the deputy determined Grimmage was the primary aggressor and placed her under arrest. She was taken to the Marion County Jail, where she’s being held on $2,000 bond. She’ll appear in Marion County Court on Nov. 5.
