A Port Richey man was jailed early Wednesday morning after he allegedly spit on a Marion County Fire Rescue paramedic who was providing medical treatment to him.
A Marion County sheriff’s deputy made contact with 25-year-old Caycey Donivan Douglass Dicks on Wednesday shortly before 8 a.m. Dicks was sitting on the side of NW U.S. Hwy. 441 and complained of a possible leg injury, so the deputy called EMS for help.
A crew from Rescue 19 arrived a short time later and a paramedic started asking Dicks medical-related questions. Dicks then became irate and the deputy heard him yell, “(Expletive deleted) you.” The deputy also heard Dicks gathering saliva in his throat and make a spitting sound before the paramedic advised that he had been spit on, the report says.
The deputy attempted to put Dicks in handcuffs. But he became combative, stood up and struck the deputy in the chest with his right hand, knocking off his body-worn camera. Dicks continued to struggle and swing his arms while grabbing at the deputy’s belt and radio as he was taken to the ground, the report says, adding that during the struggle, Dicks managed to change the channel on the deputy’s radio.
With the help of the EMS staff, Dicks eventually was placed into handcuffs. He was checked at Orlando Regional Medical Center for possible injuries and then transported to the Marion County Jail.
While being admitted to the jail, Dicks became combative with the staff before being placed into a holding cell. He was charged with two counts of battery on an officer/firefighter/medic and resisting an officer with violence. He was being held on $15,000 bond and is due in court Nov. 26 at 9 a.m. to answer to the charges.
