Ex-police-car-driving man nabbed after woman claims gun fired at her home

Vincent Michael Debowe

A Dunnellon man with a lengthy criminal record who was driving a former police car was arrested Sunday after a woman claimed he fired a gun outside her Silver Springs home while yelling for her boyfriend to come outside.

The woman said she was asleep when heard someone banging on her door. She said she looked out the window and saw 40-year-old Vincent Michael Debowe with a firearm pointed at her door. She said she then heard a gunshot and the sound of a vehicle driving away, followed a short time later by Debowe banging on a window until it broke, a Marion County Sheriff’s Office report states.

A deputy noted glass inside and outside the residence from the broken window, as well as a damaged door. He also observed what appeared to be a bullet hole in the side of the residence, the report says, adding that the damaged was estimated at $250.

Debowe, who lives at 4311 SW 181st Ct. in Dunnellon and has been held in the Marion County Jail 25 times since August 1997, was taken into custody and charged with a weapons offense, possession of a weapon or ammunition by a convicted felon and criminal mischief. He was being held on $21,000 bond and is due in court on Nov. 26 at 9 a.m. to answer to the charges.
