Man jailed after allegedly using pistol to interrogate woman about affair

Ronald Roy Haas

A 76-year-old Ocala man is in the Marion County Jail for allegedly shoving and pointing a gun at a woman he said has been having an affair on him.

Ronald Roy Haas was charged with domestic battery on a person 65 years or older, and aggravated domestic assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill. A Marion County sheriff’s deputy responded to Haas’ home on NE 61st Terrace on Monday evening after a receiving a request to check on his well-being, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The man who made the request said there had been an altercation between the Haas and the victim involving a firearm, and that the victim contacted him by phone sounding highly upset. He said the victim was on her way to his residence and told him she turned off her phone out of fear Haas would track her, the report said.

Haas told the deputy he recently learned the victim had been having an affair on him. He said he requested more information about the affair and became upset with the victim because she wasn’t telling the truth. Haas said he shoved the victim with his hands, causing her to fall back onto the bed, according to the report.

Haas said he walked over to his dresser and removed his .22-caliber firearm and held it by his side, hoping the victim would provide him with further information. He said the victim was crying and appeared scared. Haas said after the victim started talking, he placed the firearm in his pants pocket. He said he wouldn’t hurt the victim, the report said.

The victim told the deputy that Haas started an argument with her at around 4 a.m. Monday. She said she tried to get out of bed and he pushed her with his hands, causing her to fall on the ground. The victim said Haas removed the “pistol” from his dresser and held it by his side, according to the report.

The victim said she was “terrified” due to prior incidents, but she was able to remain calm. She said they both started crying and she left the location, the report said.

Haas was taken to jail without further incident, and he’s being held on $5,000 bond. He will appear in Marion County Court on Dec. 23.
