Ocala City Council to consider precautionary measures for COVID-19

Members of the Ocala City Council will discuss the ever-changing COVID-19 situation during its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, March 17.

The city currently is working with the Florida Department of Health and the Marion County Health Department to navigate the evolution of the disease, also known as the Coronavirus.

During the meeting, which begins at 5 p.m. and is held at City Hall, councilmembers will discuss precautionary measures to lessen the impact on the community. The actions that will be considered include the possibility of closing several city facilities until further notice. Those include but are not limited to senior centers, community centers, splash pads and aquatic centers and the customer service office. Councilmembers also will review a proposed list of city events and citizen-permitted events that could be postponed until further notice or canceled.

Councilmembers, senior leadership staff and health officials will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation. They are encouraging residents to maintain social distancing, cover their mouths when coughing and sneezing and wash hands frequently to control the spread of germs.
