Regretful Ocala man jailed after pushing woman into pool

Edwin Javier Rodriguez

An Ocala man accused of pushing a woman into a swimming pool admitted to a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that he was bad and needed to go to jail.

Edwin Javier Rodriguez, 32, was charged with simple domestic battery after the incident, which happened around 4:30 a.m. Thursday at his residence on SW 111th Lane.

The victim told the deputy that Rodriguez had been drinking alcohol and they got into an argument. She said he started throwing stuff around the house and breaking things. The victim said she told Rodriguez to go outside and argue so they wouldn’t wake up others in the residence, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim said Rodriguez grabbed her by the arm and took her outside to the pool area, where they continued to argue. She said he then pushed her into the pool with her clothes on. The victim said when she was trying to get out of the pool, Rodriguez made aggressive movements towards her and her friend intervened and took him back through the house to the driveway. The victim said she got out of the pool and called law enforcement, the report said.

The witness who intervened said she doesn’t know what the dispute was about, but she saw the couple verbally arguing. She said when she followed them outside, she saw Rodriguez push the victim into the pool. The witness said she then escorted Rodriguez out of the house, according to the report.

Rodriguez was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was released Saturday on $500 bond. He’ll appear in Marion County Court on May 7.
