An Ocala man remains in the Marion County Jail after being accused of battering a woman twice and holding her down in a closet against her will.
Cameron Charles Brown, 23, was charged with two counts of battery and one count of false imprisonment after the incident, which happened around 6:30 a.m. this past Thursday.
The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that Brown had been mean and getting angrier throughout the week. She said she asked him why he was acting that way, and he responded by calling her names, according to the sheriff’s office report.
The victim said she started to cry and Brown yelled at her and told her to stop crying, then threw a pile of dishes on the floor. The victim said she stood up to call the domestic violence shelter and Brown grabbed her by both of her forearms to prevent her from calling anyone, the report said.
The victim said she was able to slip away from Brown and run towards the front door. Brown then pushed into an open closet located directly behind the front door. The victim said he held her down in the closet against her will for approximately 15 minutes. She said she was trying to free herself the entire time, according to the report.
The victim said Brown punched her on the right temple using his left fist. She said at that point, something seemed to click in Brown’s head because he got up and walked away. The victim said she ran towards the apartment office for help with Brown following her trying to stop her from getting help. While discussing the incident, the victim mentioned a second battery incident that had occurred, the report said.
The deputy observed dishes on the ground and fresh bruising and knots on the victim’s left forearm. The victim also had a knot on her right temple, next to her eye, which also had fresh bruising. She also had red marks and scratches on her back, and the right side of her face was slightly swollen, according to the report.
Brown told the deputy he got up for work and the victim started hitting him for now reason. He said all the victim’s injuries were self-inflicted. Brown said he only grabbed the victim’s arms because she was hitting him, and that he chased her through the parking lot only because she had his phone, the report said.
The deputy observed a slight scratch under Brown’s left and right eyes, possibly caused by the victim defending herself. Based on the severity of the victim’s injuries, Brown was determined to be the primary aggressor, according to the report.
Brown is being held on $5,500 bond and will appear in Marion County Court on May 19.
