Two more inmates test positive for COVID-19 as tri-county area hits 698 cases

Two more inmates at a state prison in Sumter County have tested positive for COVID-19 as the tri-county area hit 698 cases of the potentially deadly virus on Monday.

The Sumter Correctional Institution in Bushnell is now reporting 115 Coronavirus cases divided among 101 inmates and 14 staff members. Three inmates are in medical isolation and 910 others are in medical quarantine. There also have been 53 negative test results and three inmates have tests pending.

As of Monday, seven long-term care facilities in the tri-county area were reporting three residents with COVID-19, nine who tested positive for the virus and were transferred out of the facilities and 13 staff members suffering from the illness. Those facilities break down as:

Marion County
Hampton ALF at Belleview LLC (two patients who tested positive).
Palm Garden of Ocala (six patients who tested positive and transferred out and eight staff members).

Sumter County
Buffalo Crossing Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in The Villages (one patient who tested positive and transferred out and three staff members).
Osprey Point Nursing Center in Bushnell (two patients who tested positive, one of whom transferred out).

Lake County
AdventHealth Care Center Waterman in Tavares (one staff member who tested positive).
Lake Eustis Health and Rehabilitation Center (one staff member who tested positive).
The Cove at Tavares Village (one patient who tested positive and transferred out).

Overall, Marion County reported 211 cases of the Coronavirus among 91 men, 115 women and five non-residents. There have been five deaths and 30 patients have been hospitalized.

The overwhelming majority of Marion County cases – 146 – have been reported in Ocala, with another 26 in Summerfield and at least one in The Villages. Other Marion County cases have been identified in Dunnellon (9), Citra (7), Belleview (6), Ocklawaha (5), Anthony (3), Reddick (2) and Silver Springs (1).

Sumter County held steady at 244 cases from Sunday to Monday. Those were comprised of 175 men, 66 women and three non-residents. There have been 14 deaths and 42 people have been hospitalized.

Of the Sumter County cases, 118 are in Bushnell, with all but five being at the prison. Seventy are in The Villages and others have been reported in Lake Panasoffkee (22), Wildwood (9), Webster (7), Lady Lake portion of the county (7), Coleman (3), Sumterville (3) and Oxford (2). All three of the cases in Coleman are at the federal prison – one inmate and two staff members.

Lake County increased by just one case in a 24-hour period. Those include 113 men, 118 women and 12 non-residents. There have been 14 deaths and 61 patients have required some form of hospital care.

The majority of the Lake County cases – 82 – are in Clermont. Seven are in The Villages portion of the County, while 10 have been reported in Lady Lake and two people have tested positive in Fruitland Park. Other Lake County cases have been identified in Leesburg (39), Eustis (19), Tavares (17), Groveland (15), Mount Dora (14), Mascotte (12), Minneola (6), Sorrento (2), Okahumpka (1), Umatilla (1), Howey-in-the-Hills (1), Montverde (1), Grand Island (1) and Yalaha (1).

All told, Florida is reporting 40,982 COVID-19 cases, with 39,888 of those being residents. There have been 1,735 deaths and 7,224 patients have been hospitalized.
