Silver Springs man tased after leading deputy on chase

Jeremiah Jacob Wilson

A Silver Springs man was tased while being arrested after leading a Marion County sheriff’s deputy on a car and foot chase.

Jeremiah Jacob Wilson, 33, of 885 N 118th Ave., was charged with operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license, fleeing and eluding law enforcement with lights and siren active, resisting an officer without violence and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription.

Shortly before 5 p.m. Wednesday, the deputy observed Wilson driving a blue Chevrolet without a license plate northbound on SE 58th Avenue. Wilson ran a red light at East Silver Springs Boulevard, leading the deputy to try to conduct a traffic stop, according to the sheriff’s office report.

Wilson failed to stop and a chase ensued. Wilson ran a stop sign at NE 35th Street and reached speeds of 65 to 70 mph in a 45-mph zone. The deputy used a pursuit intervention technique (PIT) to force Wilson to stop at the 5700 block of NE 58th Avenue, the report said.

Wilson jumped out of the vehicle and started running towards the Silver Run Forest neighborhood. After a short foot pursuit, Wilson tried to jump a fence and the deputy deployed a taser to detain him, according to the report.

While searching Wilson’s vehicle, the deputy found a small silver case containing an empty syringe needle and a clear plastic bag with a white rock-like substance that tested positive for methamphetamine, the report said.

After being read his Miranda rights, Wilson said he never had a driver’s license and fled and eluded the deputy because he was afraid of going back to jail. He said the methamphetamine found in the vehicle was his, according to the report.

Wilson was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was released Thursday on $5,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on June 16.
