Nine residents and seven staff members of long-term care facilities in Ocala have tested positive for the Coronavirus.
That’s according to a daily report released by the Florida Department of Health. Those cases have been reported in:
- Paddock Ridge, 4001 S.W. 33rd Ct. in Ocala – five employees;
- Palm Garden of Ocala, 2700 S.W. 34th St. in Ocala – seven residents who transferred out and one staff member
- Bridgewater Park Health and Rehabilitation Center, 9280 S.W. 81st Loop in Ocala – one employee; and
- Oakhurst Center, 1501 SE 24th Rd. in Ocala – two patients, one of whom transferred out.
As of Sunday, Marion County was reporting 279 COVID-19 cases – an increase of five in a 24-hour period – among 119 men, 155 women and five non-residents. There have been eight deaths and 40 people have been hospitalized.
Seventy-two percent of the Marion County cases – 200 – have been reported in Ocala. Others have been reported in Summerfield (29), Dunnellon (13), Citra (10), Belleview (9), Ocklawaha (4), Anthony (3), Reddick (2), Silver Springs (2), Fort McCoy (1) and The Villages (1).
It’s unclear if any of the Summerfield cases have been in the retirement communities of Del Webb Spruce Creek, Stonecrest or Spruce Creek South, as that specific information isn’t provided by the Florida Department of Health.
Overall, the tri-county area showed a small spike in COVID-19 cases Sunday with 13 new patients identified. That brought the total number of cases in Marion, Lake and Sumter counties to 869 among 453 men, 395 women and 21 non-residents. There have been 40 deaths and 165 people have required some form of hospital care in the tri-county area.
Lake County added eight new patients and continues to lead the way with 329 cases of the Coronavirus. Those are comprised of 150 men, 164 women and 15 non-residents. There have been 15 deaths and 80 people have been hospitalized.
Clermont continues to lead the way in Lake County with 100 cases. Others have been reported in Leesburg (47), Eustis (34), Tavares (22), Mount Dora (20), Groveland (19), Lady Lake (17), Mascotte (13), The Villages (9), Minneola (8), Fruitland Park (6), Sorrento (5), Montverde (4), Howey-in-the-Hills (3), Altoona (2), Okahumpka (1), Umatilla (1), Grand Island (1), Paisley (1) and Yalaha (1).
Sumter County held steady Sunday at 261 cases among 184 men, 76 women and one non-resident. There have been 17 deaths and 45 people have been treated at area hospitals.
Of the Sumter County cases, 122 have been reported in Bushnell – all but one of which are at the Sumter Correctional Institution (105 inmates and 16 staff members). Other cases have been identified in The Villages (68), Lake Panasoffkee (22), Oxford (17), Wildwood (9), Webster (8), Lady Lake portion of the county (6), Sumterville (5) and Coleman (3). The federal prison in Coleman also has identified six cases among four staff members and two inmates.
All told, Florida is reporting 63,938 COVID-19 cases – an increase of 1,180 in a 24-hour period. Of those, 62,416 are residents. There have been 2,700 deaths and 10,942 people have been hospitalized across the Sunshine State.
