33-year-old Belleview man claims to own stolen truck during traffic stop

Lucas Edward Knod

A Belleview man was nabbed late Monday night after a Marion County sheriff’s sergeant spotted him in Belleview driving a stolen gold pickup truck with a Louisiana license tag.

The vehicle pulled into Mary’s Place restaurant at 5035 Abshier Blvd. and multiple deputies performed a felony traffic stop. They then spoke with the driver, 33-year-old Lucas Edward Knod, who claimed that he had permission from the owner to have the vehicle, a sheriff’s office report states.

Deputies confirmed the truck was reported stolen out of Biloxi, Miss. A deputy contacted the Biloxi Police Department and an officer there confirmed that Knod was the suspect in their stolen vehicle case, the report says.

During a search of the truck, a small plastic bag was located in the driver’s side seat containing a green leafy substance that field tested positive for marijuana. The front-seat passenger “had no knowledge of the incident” and was told she was free to go, the report says.

Knod was charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle and possession of marijuana not more than 20 grams. He was being held on $2,500 bond and is due in court July 14 at 9 a.m.
