18 new COVID-19 patients reported in Ocala as Florida tops 114,000 cases

Ocala reported 18 new cases of the Coronavirus on Thursday as the potentially deadly virus continued to make a resurgence in the tri-county area and across Florida.

Marion County is now reporting 493 cases – an increase of 26 in a 24-hour period – among 212 men, 276 women and five non-residents. There have been 10 deaths and 61 people have been seen in area hospitals.

Some of the newest Marion County case have been identified as:

  • 72-year-old female;
  • 28-year-old female;
  • 69-year-old female;
  • 48-year-old female;
  • 11-year-old female;
  • 20-year-old male;
  • 29-year-old female;
  • 30-year-old female;
  • 35-year-old female;
  • 24-year-old female;
  • 54-year-old female;
  • 22-year-old female;
  • 20-year-old female;
  • 31-year-old male;
  • 46-year-old male;
  • 19-year-old male;
  • 34-year-old female;
  • 23-year-old male;
  • 34-year-old male;
  • 29-year-old male;
  • 49-year-old male;
  • 71-year-old female;
  • 66-year-old male;
  • 35-year-old female;
  • 58-year-old male;
  • 70-year-old male; and
  • 23-year-old male.

As of Thursday, Summerfield was reporting 50 cases, with others identified in Belleview (28), Dunnellon (21), Citra (13), Ocklawaha (8), Silver Springs (7), Anthony (5), Reddick (5), Weirsdale (4), Fort McCoy (2) and The Villages (2).

Overall, the tri-county area is reporting 1,682 COVID-19 cases – an increase of 78 from Wednesday to Thursday – among 881 men, 776 women, 24 non-residents and one person listed as unknown. There have been 48 deaths and 215 people have been hospitalized.

Lake County continues to pace the local area with 881 cases – an increase of 43 – among 458 men, 405 women, 17 non-residents and one person listed as unknown. There have been 21 deaths and 106 people have been hospitalized.

Clermont continues to lead Lake County in COVID-19 cases with 223. Others have been reported in Tavares (166, 119 of which are at the Lake County Jail), Leesburg (122), Eustis (92), Mount Dora (48), Groveland (40), Lady Lake (27), Sorrento (21), Minneola (18), Umatilla (16), Mascotte (15), Montverde (11), The Villages (10), Fruitland Park (10), Howey-in-the-Hills (7), Okahumpka (3), Astor (3), Altoona (2), Yalaha (2), Paisley (2), Grand Island (2) and Astatula (2).

Sumter County added nine new cases for a total of 308. Those are comprised of 211 men, 95 women and two non-residents. There have been 17 deaths and 48 people have required some form of hospital care.

Bushnell continues to lead the way in Sumter County with 124 cases – 120 of which are at the Sumter Correctional Institution. Other cases have been identified in The Villages (92), Lake Panasoffkee (22), Oxford (21), Webster (12), Wildwood (11), Lady Lake portion of the county (7), Coleman (7), Sumterville (5) and Center Hill (3). The federal prison in Coleman also has identified seven cases among six staff members and one inmate.

All told, Florida is reporting 114,018 COVID-19 cases – an increase of 5,004 in a 24-hour period. Of those, 111,724 are residents. There have been 3,327 deaths and 13,775 people have been hospitalized across the Sunshine State. Those numbers show 46 more deaths since Wednesday and an additional 201 people being treated in hospitals.
