Silver Springs woman charged with slugging man who’s afraid of her

Amber Noelle Poland

A Silver Springs woman was arrested Sunday for allegedly giving a bloody lip to a man who says he is afraid of her because she’s bigger than him.

Amber Noelle Poland, 23, of NE 146th Terrace, was charged with simple domestic battery. It’s her second trip to the Marion County Jail in less than three months, as she was picked up on a drug charge in April.

Poland told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that she and the victim had been arguing for several days. She said in the latest incident, the victim took her phone and ran down the road with it. Poland said she yelled, “Where the (expletive deleted) is my phone?” to him, according to the sheriff’s office report.

Poland said she and the victim started arguing and he got close to her face. She said the victim grabbed her by the hair with one hand and punched her in the ear with the other. Poland said she pushed him back and he “snatched” the necklace she was wearing off her neck, the report said.

Poland said the victim grabbed a metal pole from the yard and held it in his hands. She said she grabbed the pole from him and threw it down in the yard. Poland couldn’t tell the deputy what kind of pole it was and where it was located. She also didn’t have any visible injuries, according to the report.

A witness who lives at the location said Poland and the victim argue all the time and the incident is nothing new. He said Poland was trying to get her phone from the victim and got close to his face. The witness said the victim told Poland several times to “stop” and “get away,” the report said.

The witness said during the altercation, Poland punched the victim in the mouth and scratched him in the chest. He said the victim then pushed Poland’s hands away. The witness said the victim tried to walk away and Poland followed him, according to the report.

The victim told the deputy that he and Poland were arguing earlier in the morning and another deputy responded. He said he left for a few hours and came back, and that Poland “started tripping.” The victim said he went outside to talk to someone and Poland got in his face and became “belligerent,” the report said.

The victim said he tried to walk away from Poland several times, but she followed him. He said she pushed him against the fence and punched him in the temple area with a closed fist. The victim said he pushed Poland back and she punched him again in the mouth, according to the report.

The victim told the deputy, “I’m scared of that big bitch,” and that she is larger than he is. The deputy observed the victim’s bottom lip was busted and there were scratches on his chest. The victim said he doesn’t remember where the scratches came from, but they could have been caused by Poland, the report said.

Poland was being held on no bond and will appear in Marion County Court on Aug. 4.
