Incumbent Gold and former Ocala mayor Curry win big in Marion Commission races

Marion County Commission incumbent Jeff Gold zoomed to an easy win Tuesday night over challenger Bobby D. Dobkowski.

Gold garnered 72.92 percent of the ballots cast (26,816 votes) compared with Dobkowski’s 27.08 percent (9,959 votes). The winner of the District 3 race will face two write-in candidates in the November election.

Jeff Gold and Craig Curry

Gold retired from Marion County Fire Rescue and the Marion County’s Sheriff’s office after nearly 30 years of service. He represents District 3, which includes a portion of southern Marion County that contains a piece of The Villages. He is known by many Villagers for his involvement in the ongoing saga of the massive sinkholes that opened up in the Village of Calumet Grove in February and May of 2018 and heavily damaged two homes.

Former Ocala Mayor Craig Curry also cruised to an easy victory Tuesday night to fill the District 1 Commission seat that’s being vacated by David Moore, who lost in his bid to become the county’s next property appraiser. Curry captured 50.42 percent of the ballots cast (31,746 votes), while Mike Behar tallied 29.22 percent (18,401 votes) and Michael J. Saxe took 20.36 percent (12,821 votes).
