Ocala felon jailed again after ammo found in his car

Sixto Steven Santiago

A convicted felon from Ocala is back behind bars after being caught with ammunition in his vehicle.

Steven Sixto Santiago, 47, of 3755 SE 68th St., was charged early Thursday with possession of a weapon or ammunition by a convicted Florida felon. He also had his bond revoked from an arrest July 28 on the same charge plus other weapons and drug offenses.

Santiago was the driver of a black Acura that was pulled over in the 1500 block of SE 58th Avenue for failure to maintain a lane. He spontaneously told the Marion County sheriff’s deputy he was in possession of 19 rounds of Streak brand tracer ammunition, chambered in 180 grain 40 Smith and Wesson, according to the sheriff’s office report.

Santiago removed the ammunition from the cup holder next to the driver’s seat and showed it to the deputy. He said he bought the round because he is a tattoo artist and wanted to use as a model for an upcoming project, the report said.

A computer check revealed Santiago is a convicted felon, with a 1997 conviction for grand theft auto and possession of burglary tools. Neither conviction has been expunged from his record, according the report.

Santiago was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he is being held on $40,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on Sept. 29.
