Umatilla man accused of shoving woman twice

Daniel Bacchus

An Umatilla man with a prior battery conviction was arrested last week after he allegedly pushed a woman twice over a two-day period.

Daniel Sean Bacchus, 26, was charged with battery (second of subsequent offense). He was previously convicted of battery in 2015 in Volusia County, according to court records.

The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy on Wednesday that on Tuesday night, Bacchus became upset and pushed her in the chest with both hands, causing her to lose her balance and land on her right elbow. The deputy observed a large bruise on the victim’s right elbow, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim when Bacchus came home from work Wednesday, he walked over to the couch where she was sitting, grabbed her left wrist and pulled her up. She said Bacchus then pushed her in the chest, causing her to fall over. The deputy observed a red mark on the victim’s wrist that correlated with her account of events, the report said.

After being read his Miranda warning, Bacchus admitted he became upset with the victim on Wednesday and pushed her after pulling her up from the couch. He was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was being held on $1,000 bond. Bacchus will appear in Marion County Court on Oct. 20.
