Licenseless Gainesville man jailed after stop in Silver Springs

Mikell Nicely Garvin

A Gainesville man admitted he’s never had a Florida driver’s license when he was stopped for having both taillights out Monday night in Silver Springs.

At around 8 p.m., a Marion County sheriff’s deputy responded to the 14000 block of East Highway 40 to investigate a complaint about a gray vehicle driving without any taillights. The deputy conducted the traffic stop and spoke with the driver, 29-year-old Mikell Nicely Garvin, of Gainesville, according to the sheriff’s office report.

Garvin gave the deputy a Florida identification card and said he doesn’t have a license in Florida and has never been issued one. A computer check revealed he was previously convicted in Alachua County for operating a vehicle without a license, the report said.

Garvin said he was driving the vehicle for his girlfriend, who is the registered owner and a passenger, due to her not feeling well. He was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was released Tuesday on $500 bond. No court information was available.
