An Ocala woman was arrested after she reportedly battered a man who was angry because she spent his tax return money without his permission.

The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that during the argument Sunday, he grabbed Carrie Ann Dennis’ phone and took his debit cards from the phone. He said he then left the bedroom to get away from Dennis, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim said Dennis then attacked him from behind by kicking him and punching him in the head. He said he turned around to push her away, and Dennis started scratching his arms to get his debit cards. The victim said he started video recording Dennis, and she finally separated herself from him, the report said.

The deputy did not observe any marks on the victim’s back and head, but there were multiple red scratch marks on his left inner bicep consistent with a hand scratching him. The deputy observed the video and could only hear a verbal altercation taking place, according to the report.

Dennis told the deputy the argument started around 4:30 or 5:30 a.m. when the victim woke her up and confronted her about money she spent. She said he took her phone and walked out of the room. Dennis said she went after the victim to get her phone back and that’s when the physical altercation started, the report said.

The deputy asked Dennis how the victim started the physical altercation when he was walking away from her. She said walked to him to get her phone. The deputy asked how the victim started the altercation with his back facing her as she approached him. Dennis could not provide an answer, according to the report.

Dennis was charged with simple battery and taken to the Marion County Jail, where she was released Monday on $500 bond. Dennis is due to appear in Marion County Court on June 8.
