Ocala Fiber Network continues to grow commercial, residential offerings

The Ocala Fiber Network continues to grow its commercial and residential offerings.

Ocala City Manager Sandra Wilson gave a brief update on the network, which provides high-speed bandwidth connections to commercial and residential properties throughout the city.

According to Wilson, the organization has grown its commercial accounts by 22% and its residential accounts by 26% over the past year. The program currently reinvests its revenue back into the utility.

“Ocala Fiber Network is an economic driver for our community. Every business needs that connectivity, and they need it fast,” said Wilson during a recent presentation to the business community.

According to OFN, the organization operates with a “99.9% reliability rate,” providing a 1-gigabyte capable symmetrical bandwidth connection, and offering equal upload and download data speeds.

Currently, the residential neighborhoods that are a part of the network include Happiness Homes, Windstream, Ocala Highlands, and Bellechase. Although residents may submit requests to extend the network to their own neighborhoods, there is currently a moratorium on residential installations (with the exception of the four aforementioned communities).
