Voters will have multiple opportunities to learn about candidates running in the upcoming Ocala City Council election through a series of candidate forums.
Multiple local organizations will hold candidate forums throughout the month of August to give residents of Ocala a chance to hear candidates’ responses to questions important to the city and its residents.
The Brick City Center for the Arts will play host to at least two of the forums on Tuesday, August 10, and Thursday, August 12 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. On Tuesday, candidates from districts 1, 3 and 5 will speak, while on Thursday, candidates for District 4 and the Mayor’s office will speak. The event is free and open to the public. The Brick City Center for the arts is located at 23 SW Broadway Street in Downtown Ocala.
The Local League of Women Voters will host a Meet the Candidate session on Saturday, August 21 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Marion County Public Library Headquarters (2720 East Silver Springs Boulevard).
Towards the end of the month, the Republican Women of Ocala/Marion Federated will host its own candidates forum on August 24, 2021 at the Ocala Golf Club, which is located at 3130 East Silver Springs Boulevard. Among the candidates whose attendance is confirmed is current Mayor Kent Guinn, who will seek reelection against Manal Fakhoury. Additional confirmed candidates include Brent Malever and Jay Musleh, who are both seeking reelection of their Ocala City Council seats. Recently, candidates spoke at a forum hosted at the Ocala Fire Station and First Responders Campus located at 340 NE 8th Street. That event was live-streamed by the Ocala Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 129.
