Citra man among two drivers seriously injured in accident on U.S. Hwy 90

A 31-year-old Citra man was among two drivers that were seriously injured during a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 90, a half-mile west of 89th Road.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident occurred on Tuesday, October 26, around 3 p.m. A 57-year old McAlpin man was heading west on U.S. 90 in his 2008 Ford F-150 truck.

A 2016 Freightliner tractor-trailer, driven by the Citra man, was traveling east on U.S. 90.

For unknown reasons, the truck crossed over into the eastbound lane and into the path of the tractor-trailer.

The driver of the tractor-trailer attempted to steer his vehicle out of the way, but a front-to-front collision occurred.

The truck overturned and came to a rest on the south shoulder of U.S. 90, while the tractor-trailer came to a stop facing northeast on U.S. 90.

Both drivers were the sole occupants of their respective vehicles, and they both sustained serious injuries in the accident, according to the report.

Their current condition is unknown at this time.

The names of the drivers were not released, per FHP policy.
