Dunnellon man allegedly punches elderly roommates after argument

A 37-year-old Dunnellon man was arrested after allegedly punching his elderly roommates after getting into an argument.

On Wednesday at around 5:30 p.m., a Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a SW 151st Place residence in Dunnellon in reference to physical altercation.

The deputy arrived at the residence and met an elderly male victim. According to the MCSO report, the victim was bleeding and had swelling on his right hand and face.

The victim stated that he had gotten into an argument with one of his roommates, Dawayne Eugene Styles, earlier in the day. When he later approached Styles to smooth things over, Styles began allegedly striking him in the face with a closed fist.

Another elderly man who witnessed the physical altercation approached Styles to stop it, and Styles allegedly punched him. The MCSO report indicated that the second victim did not have any visible injuries.

Both victims stated that Styles left the residence prior to the deputy’s arrival.

Styles was arrested shortly before 7 p.m. and transported to Marion County Jail. He faces two felony charges for battery of a person over 65.

He is currently being held on $40,000 bond and has a court date scheduled on December 21 at 9 a.m., according to jail records.
