‘Bus Blitz’ returns next week to recruit school bus drivers in Marion County

Marion County Public Schools is taking its recruiting efforts to six locations throughout the county next week to help meet the ongoing need for bus drivers.

The “Bus Blitz” event will take place on Tuesday, June 13, from 9 a.m. to noon. During this time, MCPS buses will be parked at the following strategic locations:

  • Dunnellon High School (10055 SW 180th Avenue Road in Dunnellon).
  • Lake Weir High School (10351 SE Maricamp Road in Ocala).
  • Liberty Middle School (4773 SW 95th Street in Ocala).
  • North Marion High School (151 W Highway 329 in Citra).
  • Vanguard High School (7 NW 28th Street in Ocala).
  • E.D. Croskey Recreation Center (1510 NW 4th Street in Ocala).

Members of the community who are interested in becoming a bus driver will be able to complete an online application on the spot, ask questions, and learn more about working for the district.

MCPS bus drivers earn a starting pay of $18.65 per hour, and six hours are guaranteed daily. Adults (ages 21 and up) with a clean driving record are eligible. The district pays candidates while they train and covers training costs, except for the Commercial Driver License exam.

Bus drivers also receive paid health insurance, gain accrued time off, and are eligible for additional benefits. They can sign up for temporary positions with fewer work hours or full-time positions with overtime opportunities.
