The Ocala Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred early Saturday evening.
At around 5:35 p.m., a citizen contacted 911 and reported hearing multiple gunshots near the intersection of NW 16th Street and NW 19th Court, according to OPD.
A witness informed OPD that multiple individuals were involved in the shooting. Officers responded to the area and observed shell casings on the ground, but no individuals were located.
Shortly after the reported shooting, a man was dropped off by vehicle at Ocala Fire Rescue Station #1. According to OPD, the man had been shot in the chest, and he was transported to a local hospital where he sadly passed away due to his gunshot wound.
In a social media post, OPD stated that the shooting incident is under investigation. No further details were released.
