Back-to-school events across Ocala this weekend

Back-to-school events have returned to Ocala just in time for the beginning of the school year on August 10.

Ocala Nazarene Church will kick off its annual back-to-school Sunday service with an event beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the church, which is located at 3732 NE 7th Street in Ocala. The Back to School Sunday Service will have free bags filled with school supplies, free back-to-school pictures, free lunch for all, and gifts for teachers.

Later on Sunday, the Ocala Downtown Market will host its third annual community back-to-school drive. That event takes place from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the market, which is located at 403 SE Osceola Avenue.

The event will feature free backpacks filled with school supplies, as well as games, inflatables, music, a selfie booth, live entertainment for the entire family, and food trucks. For more information on the event, visit the Back2School Field Day webpage.

Local Verizon Authorized Resellers, TCC and Wireless Zone, will offer free backpacks at various locations across Marion County on Sunday, July 30, beginning at 1 p.m. Local families will be able to pick up a backpack filled with pencils, paper, a pencil box, folders, a ruler and glue. One backpack per child present will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis at each participating TCC and Wireless Zone store. TCC Ocala is located at 7859 SW Hwy 200, Ste 103. For additional locations in the area, visit the TCC Verizon Authorized Retailer website and choose the “Backpack Giveaway” filter.
