Detectives believe that human remains that were found in a ditch along a Marion County road may belong to a mother of three young children who has been missing since October of 2022.

At around 4:50 p.m. on Thursday, Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 12000 block of E Highway 42 in Weirsdale after human remains were found by citizens who were changing a tire.

MCSO detectives soon arrived on scene, and they worked in conjunction with personnel from the Medical Examiner’s Office and the University of Florida C.A. Pound Human Identification Lab to identify the remains.

In a social media post on Friday, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office provided an update: “Based upon the general area in which the human remains were found and evidentiary items found at the scene, MCSO detectives believe the remains are those of Crystalyn Mobley.”
