Driver sought in hit-and-run that seriously injured cyclist

A 25-year-old woman from Williston was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash in Alachua County earlier this month, and Florida Highway Patrol troopers are asking for the public’s help to find the driver responsible for the accident.

On August 10, 2023, at around 10:20 p.m., a vehicle was traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 41, near the intersection of SW 139th Avenue, in Alachua County. At the same time, the 25-year-old woman was riding a bicycling on U.S. Highway 41, and she was ahead of the vehicle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

When the woman was approximately 50 feet north of the intersection, FHP stated that her bicycle was struck by the vehicle. The driver then fled from the scene of the accident.

During the collision, the woman sustained serious injuries, and she was transported to UF Health Shands Hospital.

According to FHP, the vehicle involved in the accident may have damage to its right front side, and the mirror on the passenger side may be broken. The make and model of the vehicle is unknown at this time.
