A new Wawa location under construction along SW Highway 200 will mark the company’s sixth outpost in Ocala.
Located at 8300 SW 100th Street, developers have been working on the land for over two years and are targeting a fall opening.
Since 2018, the Pennsylvania-based company has opened locations all across Marion County. That includes five locations in Ocala, including three Wawa’s that opened simultaneously in 2019 at 3601 East Silver Springs Boulevard, 1001 S Pine Avenue, and 3312 W Silver Springs Boulevard.
Just a few weeks after the first three locations opened, Wawa opened a fourth location in Ocala at 4025 SW College Road.
In February 2020, Wawa opened its fifth location in Ocala at 3080 SE Maricamp Road.
The sixth location will open more than three years after the fifth location. In 2021, the developers of the sixth Wawa location were ordered by the county to pay a fee for unplanted replacement trees.
Over the past several years, Ocala-News.com readers have shared dozens of letters to the editor in hope that city and county officials will direct their efforts towards attracting different types of businesses.
Many of those residents expressed concerns with the rapid growth of both gas stations and car washes throughout the city.
Currently, Wawa joins several other gas station brands with multiple locations in Ocala, including RaceTrac, Shell, and Sunoco. In total, the city currently has at least two dozen gas stations operating along major thoroughfares.
