Why are electric rates so high in Ocala?

To the Editor:

There has to be something that can be done about how much Ocala Electric clients pay monthly. I work 10 to 12 hours a day, so I’m barely ever home. I have two elderly parents that live with me that use very little electric. My pool is on a timer and I have recently cut it down to only running four hours a day. All of my appliances are gas, as well as my furnace. But somehow my electric bill continues to rise.

I don’t know how most families are making it with the cost of utilities. My monthly bill stays around $680 to $700 a month. This can’t be right. I had Ocala Electric come out to check my home and never heard back from them.

Why are our rates so high? We should have another option and not be subject to just one company. Monopolies were illegal last I remember.
