The Marion County Sheriff’s Office Mounted Unit recently completed its first community demonstration when it stopped by a local elementary school.
Two weeks ago, on October 25, the MCSO Mounted Unit traveled to Reddick-Collier Elementary School, which is located at 4595 W Highway 316 in Reddick.
While at the elementary school, members of the Mounted Unit introduced the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students to the horses, “Blue and “Sky,” while discussing the functions of the unit.
In addition, the students in attendance learned about the daily care of the horses, as well as the steps involved to train them.
Unit members also demonstrated several cues that riders use to communicate with the horses.
On its Facebook page, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office stated, “The Mounted Unit thoroughly enjoyed spending time with the students and having the opportunity to foster positive relationships with law enforcement!”
