A semi-truck carrying hazardous materials overturned on Interstate 75 in Marion County on Tuesday morning, causing delays for southbound motorists.
Shortly before 11:25 a.m., Marion County Fire Rescue units were dispatched to I-75 southbound, near mile marker 355, after receiving reports of a semi-truck rolling over in the area, according to MCFR.
Multiple individuals had called 911 to report that the semi and another vehicle had rolled over on the shoulder of the interstate.
Marion County Fire Rescue units quickly arrived on scene. After observing the overturned semi on the west shoulder, crew members requested assistance from the Special Operations HAZMAT team to help mitigate the hazardous spills.
According to MCFR, the semi-truck was carrying barrels of antifreeze, motor oil, and diesel fuel at the time of the crash.
One person was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Their name, age, and gender were not released by MCFR.
The State Warning Point was notified of the HAZMAT material spill and responded to the scene of the crash to assist with the cleanup efforts.
Due to the accident, southbound traffic on I-75 was reduced to one lane. Drivers heading southbound on I-75 can expect delays near mile marker 356, approximately two miles south of County Road 326.
The Florida Highway Patrol is currently investigating the cause of the accident.
