One injured in boating accident on Ocklawaha River

One man was severely injured on Saturday after his fishing boat was struck by another boat on Ocklawaha River.

Shortly after 11:55 a.m., several Marion County Fire Rescue units were dispatched to the Ocklawaha River, south of the Moss Bluff Dam, in reference to a boating accident.

According to MCFR, a boat with four people on board was navigating the river when it hit a man who was in his fishing boat. After the impact, the fishing boat capsized.

Firefighters from MCFR’s Weirsdale Station #27 commandeered a ride to the boat accident site and immediately began treating the injured patient.

MCFR’s Special Operations Team deployed a boat, which was used to transport the patient to the dock. He was then trauma alerted to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.

No other injuries were reported.
