Marion sheriff hosting women’s self defense classes

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is hosting free rape and aggression defense classes that will teach women and girls how to protect themselves against threats in a variety of situations.

The comprehensive 12-hour program is taught in four 3-hour sessions, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., at the MCSO Training Building located at 692 NW 30th Avenue in Ocala. During the program, participants will learn realistic self-defense tactics and techniques.

The program will have four sessions. Session one will take place on Thursday, April 11, session two is on Tuesday, April 16, sessions three is on Thursday, April 18, and session four takes place on Tuesday, April 23.

According to MCSO, the comprehensive course begins with a focus on awareness, prevention, risk reduction, and avoidance, and progresses into the basics of hands-on defense training.

Attendance is confidential, and this class is a safe place for women to learn how to protect themselves against threats in a variety of situations. This class is suitable for ages 13 and up, and wearing comfortable workout clothing is recommended.
