The Marion County School District will receive over $140,000 in unspent money from two separate roof replacement projects at North Marion Middle School and North Marion High School.

The change orders will be presented to the Marion County School Board during its regular meeting on Tuesday, October 22.

According to district records, the roof replacement for the middle school, which is located at 2085 W Hwy 329 in Citra, was originally estimated to cost $1,839,920. The contract was completed for $1,744,875.25, resulting in $95,044.75 in unused funds.

The roof replacement at the high school, which is located at 151 W Hwy 329 in Citra, was originally estimated to cost $373,959. That job was completed for $328,232.04, or $45,726.96 less than the original estimate.

The contractor at the middle school was Scherer Construction of North Florida, LLC, which is based in Gainesville. The contractor for the high school was Trenton-based Gray Construction Services, Inc.

The change orders associated with both deductions were previously approved by Superintendent Diane Gullett.

In total, the school board will receive approximately $140,771.71 in unused funds from the change orders for the contracts, which were agreed to in April.

Last month, the school board denied Gray Construction Services, Inc.’s request to extend a deadline to repair doors and windows at the high school.

At the time, the windows at the school had been covered with plywood boards for four months. As of Saturday, the windows remain covered with plywood boards.
