A 35-year-old homeless woman was arrested on burglary and theft charges after she allegedly trespassed on her mother’s property, broke into the residence, and stole canned goods.

On Wednesday, November 20, a Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a neighborhood on Spring Drive Way in Ocala in reference to a home break-in. Upon arrival at the incident location, a woman – identified as Cherelle Gabriel Gordon – was allegedly seen exiting the residence while holding a “shopping bag of canned goods,” according to the arrest report.

The female victim informed the deputy that her daughter, Gordon, had entered the home through a “broken window.” The report stated that a neighbor provided photographs to the deputy, which allegedly showed Gordon “climbing through the victim’s window” at the time of the reported break-in.

The deputy noted in the report that Gordon was “homeless in the Ocala area,” and she had previously been trespassed from the incident location due to “similar incidents.”

After being read her Miranda rights, Gordon claimed that she went to the victim’s residence to “check on (her).” Gordon allegedly admitted to taking canned goods while inside the home, and the report stated that several cans belonging to the victim were recovered at the scene.

Gordon was arrested and transported to Marion County Jail, where she is currently being held without bond. She is being charged with unarmed burglary of an unoccupied dwelling and second-degree petit theft (first offense).

A court date has not been scheduled yet, according to jail records.
