A single mother and her son were able to spend the holidays in a new home that she earned through volunteering to build houses for others in Habitat for Humanity of Marion County.
On December 23, local officials gathered to give the keys from the new house to Brittani Davis and her teenage son, who moved to the area years ago from Palm Beach County.
According to the organization, Davis relocated to Ocala in search of a fresh start and brighter future.
After learning about Habitat for Humanity of Marion County through a family friend, Davis took advantage of the opportunity to fulfill her dream.
“The thought of being a homeowner brings joy to my soul,” reads a statement from Davis. “Knowing I will be one of the few in my family to own a home is so rewarding. I wanted my son to have the same stability I had growing up—a place filled with love and memories.”
As part of her journey to homeownership, Davis contributed sweat equity hours by working on homes, including painting another home in the program.
Davis says she dreams of hosting family gatherings, celebrations, and making new memories in her home. One of the hallmarks of the new home is the sun-flower themed kitchen.
“Brittani’s story is a powerful reminder of why Habitat for Humanity exists,” said Rob Peters, President/CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Marion County. “Through her hard work and determination, Brittani has shown the strength of a mother dedicated to building a brighter future for her family. We’re honored to have been part of her journey.”
